Ditzingen Race for Life: GEZE runs for a good cause

Taking part in the race for Life in Ditzingen's municipal park has become a tradition for GEZE. The sponsored run helps to fund projects to improve cystic fibrosis treatment and research, and to raise public awareness of this still incurable metabolic disorder.

Collecting donations and raising awareness

Organised by the Ludwigsburg-Heilbronn regional group of the Baden-Württemburg Landesverband des Mukoviszidose e.V. (cystic fibrosis foundation), the aim of the charity run is to raise money for every kilometre covered. The money raised goes towards supporting projects for improving cystic fibrosis treatment, research and rehabilitation.

Just as importantly, the run aims to raise awareness of the illness. The Race for Life is not about speed. The important thing is the number of kilometres run, as every kilometre translates into a donation.

GEZE has been taking part in the Ditzingen Race for Life for many years now, and thanks to the commitment of its staff, it raises a total of around €4,000 each year.

GEZE employees from all departments take part – actively supported by their families and friends.

What is cystic fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is one of the most common metabolic diseases in central Europe: it's caused by a genetic defect and remains incurable. It primarily affects the respiratory tract and the gastrointestinal tract of children and young adults.

The outlook for people who suffer from cystic fibrosis has improved continually as a result of better medical care and treatment. Many patients lead an almost normal life and are fully integrated in the workplace. However, they need intensive physiotherapy as well as respiratory and inhalation therapy every day, and require constant medication to prevent infections. Even with intensive care, sufferers have a limited life expectancy. Donations from the Ditzingen Race for Life go towards continuously improving this situation.
